On top of all the beautiful beaches, great golf, first-class dining and fantastic shopping, there is an exciting schedule of spring festivals and events planned in the coming months. Here are a few of the best events to check out during your spring getaway to Pawleys Island.

Burning of the Socks- POSTPONED WITH DATE TBA

One of the weirdest but most charming spring events will take place in Georgetown on March 19th as the annual Burning of the Socks celebration returns for its ninth edition. This event celebrates the first day of spring and carries on the tradition started by Captain Bob Turner back in the mid-1980’s. While running a boatyard in Annapolis, MD, Turner noticed that throughout the winter his thick socks accumulated a huge buildup of sawdust, tar, paint and caulk, and after this seasonal beating they practically stood up on their own when he took them off. To celebrate making it through the tough winter, Turner tossed his socks in a paint tray, hit them with some lighter fluid and lit them up. This practice has been passed down throughout numerous coastal communities since then. Georgetown’s version takes place at the SC Maritime Museum and will include a BBQ dinner, beer and wine vendors and live music. For more info or to purchase tickets, visit the Maritime Museum’s website.

Gator Gauntlet 5K- CANCELLED

Perhaps one of your New Year’s Resolutions was to exercise more. Or maybe you’re already an avid runner. Either way, you can visit Huntington Beach State Park on Saturday, April 4th and take part in the Gator Gauntlet 5K. This isn’t your ordinary 5K race, as runners will traverse the park and encounter unique activities to outsmart and endure the course. Runners are encouraged to dress up in their most gator-rific attire, with the best costume being awarded a special prize. Registration for the race is $25 and all runners receive a commemorative T-shirt. For more event details, visit the Huntington Beach State Park website.

Wahoo’s 4th Country Music Festival- POSTPONED WITH DATES TBA
