Have Fun in Pawleys Island Without Breaking the Bank
Chauncey Smith | 12 Mar 2018
A Pawleys Island vacation can be one of the most relaxing getaways you can take, but fortunately it doesn't break your budget. When you book with our great Pawleys Island resorts you know you're getting an unbeatable deal, and when you get here there are lots of great ways to fill your trip with non-stop fun without spending a dime! So holster your credit card, put that checkbook away and check out some of the best ways to enjoy free fun while on your vacation to Pawleys Island!
Birdwatch Along the Shoreline
Located just north of Pawleys Island in Murrells Inlet, Huntington Beach State Park is renowned as the best spot for birdwatching in the state of South Carolina. A vast variety of coastal aviary species call this region home or routinely return for nesting or as a pit stop on yearly migrations. While it costs a few bucks for entry to Huntington Beach State Park (a great value and highly recommended, but technically not free), the beach area that runs just north or south of the park grounds is open to the public and many of the birds like pelicans, osprey, great blue heron, sandpipers and gulls are likely to be spotted. During cooler months, there have even been sightings of bald eagles that pass through the area! Simply grab a chair and a pair of binoculars and enjoy a great time on the beach!
Visit Pawleys Island Historic District
The tradition of a vacation to Pawleys Island dates back to the 18th century and with the unspoiled natural beauty of the area, it's no wonder why leisure-seekers have flocked to this peaceful refuge for centuries. A trip along the beach through the Historic District of Pawleys Island is a perfect opportunity for viewing the scenic shoreline, hunting for seashells and gazing at the unique architecture of the houses in the area that showcase the "arrogantly shabby" motif that Pawleys Island is known for. You're likely to see houses and chapels that have been maintained for over 100 years throughout vicious storms including Hurricane Hugo that smashed into the area in 1989. This is a great opportunity to see how the laid-back spirit of Pawleys Island has survived throughout the decades.
Take a Bike Ride Along the Waccamaw Neck Trail
This one comes with a caveat, as if you don't have your own bike you will have to rent one (hint hint, bike rentals available for guests of Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort), but if you bring your own the Waccamaw Neck Trail is one of the best biking trails along the Grand Strand! Measuring 12 miles from Pawleys Island to Murrells Inlet, the trail traverses through shaded coastal forests, over tranquil saltwater marshes and inlets and is a marvelous showcase of the lowcountry landscape of coastal South Carolina. The ride can be an all-day affair by going the entire length or a shorter journey by taking the three-mile loop along the western part of the trail. There are several spots along the way for bikers to stop and have a rest while enjoying scenic inlet or beach views. The trail is also suitable for walkers who would enjoy a tranquil stroll among the inlets or coastal forests of the area.
These are just a few of the great things in store for your Pawleys Island vacation. When you're ready to make that dream trip a reality, the Litchfield Company is ready to help you reserve the perfect Pawleys Island condo or beach house for your getaway. Whether it's one of our Pawleys Island vacation rentals at Pawleys Plantation Resort, Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort or True Blue Resort, your vacation will be an unforgettable experience at an unbeatable price!
